A Guide to Car Seat Covers

By Josh Riverside

A seat is one of the most important aspects of your car's interior. The way your seat looks determines how your interior appears to others. Regardless of how nice your car is, if the seats are drab and falling apart, your car will look like a piece of junk. Having the right type of seat cover will not only make the inside of your car look good, it will enhance your comfort and overall driving experience.

Custom leather car seats are available to fit most domestic and foreign car makes. They can be as basic as black or gray or as detailed as having your name engraved on the back headrest, etc. Of course the more customized - the higher the price.

There are many different grades of leather. The higher the quality, naturally the more expensive the seats will be. Most people who purchase leather car seats tend to purchase automotive grade leather that meets OEM specifications.

Often times when you buy seat covers online they are better than the original seats that the car came equipped with. OEM leather seat covers are not 100% leather -- rather the leather is only contained in the insert of the seat. Usually, the sides and the back are made of simulated leather.

The typical high quality custom seat cover can cost approximately $150 the front seats, and $225 for the rear bench seat. This price does not include labor for the installation of these seat covers.

The regular low quality seat covers can cost as little as $55. However, these seats rip easily, and will not look as nice as the higher quality.
